Alessandro Circati to Join Benfica from Parma in €20m Deal
Benfica has reached an agreement with Parma to acquire Alessandro Circati. The Portuguese club is set to pay approximately €20 million for the Australian centre-back.
According to reports, personal terms with Circati were already finalized before the clubs agreed on the transfer fee, paving the way for his move to Lisbon.
The 22-year-old, who also represented Australia at the recent World Cup, will depart the club where he progressed through the youth system and made his senior debut in 2022.
From Serie B Promotion to Socceroos Captaincy: Circati's Rise
Affectionately known as "Il Muro" (The Wall) by Parma fans for his defensive prowess, Circati was instrumental in the club's promotion to Serie A in 2024. He solidified his position as a key player last season, featuring in 33 matches across all competitions.
Born in Fidenza but having grown up in Perth since the age of one, he opted to represent Australia internationally. He has since captained the Socceroos, becoming their youngest skipper since 1981.
His performances at the World Cup attracted interest from several prominent European clubs, but Benfica has been the quickest to secure his signature.
