Chivu Reassures Inter Fans: Bastoni's Commitment Unwavering Despite Future Uncertainty

Cristian Chivu has addressed speculation regarding Alessandro Bastoni's future, hinting at a potential departure from Inter and Italy, possibly to Barcelona, following recent World Cup controversies. Chivu firmly stated, "I’m sure he will give over 100 percent for us, whether it’s for two months or a couple of years," underlining Bastoni's commitment.

The recent international break brought disappointment for several Inter players, with five returning after Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup. Alessandro Bastoni, in particular, faced significant criticism from both the media and fans for receiving a red card in the play-off final against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Chivu Offers Support to Bastoni

During a press conference, Chivu emphasized the strong character of his players. "I am dealing with great champions, especially on a human level, who have always demonstrated resilience after tough setbacks," he stated. He added that the squad understands that being part of a team means occasional failures, but what truly matters is character, reaction, dedication to teammates, and respect for the club and its fans. Chivu expressed confidence, noting, "I am not worried, because in these eight months they showed that this is a group of real men who I can trust." This recent incident compounded existing criticism for Bastoni, who had previously faced jeers from rival fans after admitting to simulating to get a Juventus player sent off, leading to calls for his removal from the national squad. "They all learned from the errors of the past, and what matters is who we are today; we always lift our heads up," he affirmed. He specifically defended Bastoni, recalling that despite being on crutches recently, Bastoni was training with the national team just three days later. Chivu acknowledged that players accept criticism, even during challenging times. Regarding Bastoni, he commented, "I know that football is lacking in gratitude, that people are always quick to point the finger of blame, to seek out things that have nothing to do with Alessandro’s true nature and values."
