Football Star Jorginho Accuses Chappell Roan Security of Reducing Daughter to Tears
Italian international footballer Jorginho has publicly accused pop singer Chappell Roan's security personnel of causing his daughter distress during a recent encounter in a Sao Paulo hotel. According to Jorginho, his family was having breakfast at the same hotel as Roan when his 11-year-old daughter simply smiled at the singer's table.
In an Instagram story, Jorginho described the subsequent events as "completely disproportionate." He stated that a large security guard approached their table, addressing his wife, Catherine Harding, and daughter in an "extremely aggressive manner." The guard allegedly accused them of allowing his daughter to "disrespect" or "harass" others and threatened to file a complaint with the hotel, all while his daughter was "sitting there in tears." Jorginho emphasized that his daughter was "extremely shaken and cried a lot."
The footballer expressed his disappointment, saying, "I understand very well what respect and boundaries are. What happened there was not that. It was just a child admiring someone." He added, "It’s sad to see this kind of treatment coming from those who should understand the importance of fans. At the end of the day, they are the ones who build all of this." Jorginho concluded his statement with a strong message, "WITHOUT YOUR FANS, YOU WOULD BE NOTHING. AND TO THE FANS, SHE DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR AFFECTION."
In response to Jorginho's allegations, Chappell Roan expressed her sadness for the "mother and child," stating they "didn’t deserve" such an experience. However, she clarified that the incident did not involve her personal security team. Roan explained, "I was just sitting at breakfast in my hotel…I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child."
She further added, "They did not come up to me. They weren’t doing anything. It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions when they have no reason to believe that, because there is no action taken." Roan also refuted any notion of disliking her fans or children, calling it "crazy." She concluded by apologizing to the family, saying, "I am sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming something, that you were doing something. If you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that."
Jorginho, 34, is a prominent figure in football, having previously played for Napoli and Verona before joining Brazilian club Flamengo. Born in Brazil, he holds an Italian passport and has represented the Italian national team, the Azzurri, 57 times, scoring five goals and notably winning the 2020 European Championship.
