The midfielder, who will reach his 30th birthday in June, just weeks before his current contract expires, finds himself at a crucial juncture where he could choose his next club without a transfer fee.
A Deep-Rooted History with Roma
Leaving the Stadio Olimpico would undoubtedly be a wrench for Pellegrini, given his lifelong connection to the club. He has spent nearly his entire career in the Giallorossi jersey, progressing from their youth academy to proudly wearing the captain’s armband, with only a two-year spell at Sassuolo from 2015 to 2017 interrupting his tenure.
Despite not being a central figure in the initial plans of new coach Gian Piero Gasperini, Pellegrini demonstrated his importance this season by making 31 competitive appearances, contributing six goals and four assists.
Pellegrini reportedly retains hope for a new contract with Roma, even if it necessitates a significant cut from his current earnings of €4.5 million per season plus an additional €2 million in bonuses. Should he choose to stay, his wages would likely be reduced to a maximum of €2.5 million per season.
However, Pellegrini does have other compelling options. Both Serie A giants Juventus and Inter Milan have been linked with a potential move for the midfielder should he become available on a free transfer.
