Roma Fans Demand Overhaul After Crushing 5-2 Defeat to Inter: 'Mourinho Got Sacked for Less'

A significant portion of AS Roma's fanbase is expressing intense frustration and calling for a "revolution" this summer after the team suffered a resounding 5-2 away defeat against league leaders Inter in Serie A. This result has severely hampered manager Gian Piero Gasperini’s chances of securing Champions League qualification.

The Giallorossi were overwhelmed by the table-topping Nerazzurri at San Siro. Despite goals from Gianluca Mancini and Lorenzo Pellegrini for Roma, they were ultimately outmatched by Inter's offensive display, which included two goals from Lautaro Martinez, alongside strikes from Hakan Calhanoglu, Marcus Thuram, and Nicolo Barella.

This heavy loss leaves Roma in sixth place in the Serie A standings with seven league matches remaining in the 2025-26 season. The gap to fifth place, currently held by Juventus, could narrow to three points, while fourth-placed Como might extend their lead over Roma to six points.

Sunday's outcome has been met with widespread anger among Roma supporters, many of whom are directing their blame squarely at Gasperini. In his inaugural season, the head coach has now overseen 11 Serie A defeats, compounded by a disappointing Round of 16 exit from the Europa League at the hands of fellow Serie A side, Bologna.

One fan voiced their frustration on social media, stating: "Just saying, Mourinho and De Rossi were sacked for much less, so I believe and hope that the time has come to sack this coach."

Another user echoed this sentiment, lamenting: "Remember when the Friedkins thought firing one of the greatest managers of all time will improve Roma?"

In a further critical comment, a supporter wrote: "With a better squad and performing worse than JM’s Roma is criminal. It serves the JM haters right."

Some supporters felt Gasperini's tactical approach on the night was fundamentally flawed: "The team is poor, we don’t have many strong players, so a smart coach goes to Inter and tries to play on the break, tries to defend and play on the counter-attack. Beyond the coach and players, significant criticism has also been leveled at the club’s ownership and senior management following the recent defeat against Inter.
