Serie A Backs Malagò for FIGC Presidential Candidate, Two Abstain
Most Serie A clubs are supporting Giovanni Malagò to be their nominee for the FIGC presidency, with only Lazio and Hellas Verona opting not to vote at this time.
A meeting of Lega Serie A clubs is currently underway in Milan to determine their choice for the FIGC presidential election. The new FIGC President is set to be elected on June 22, and the votes from Lega Serie A represent 18% of the total.
Giovanni Malagò, the former CONI President, is anticipated to be the candidate put forward by Lega Serie A. The 67-year-old has garnered support from 18 clubs in Italy's top football division.
According to Sky Sport Italia, Lazio and Verona chose not to voice an opinion on Malagò's candidacy during the meeting. They stated a desire to first review the regulatory framework, though they are not against Malagò himself.
Juventus and Milan have also given their backing to Malagò. This comes despite reports that they had initially proposed Adriano Galliani as an alternative to the former CONI President. Malagò, however, enjoys strong support from Inter President Beppe Marotta and Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis.
